The Minister of Interior, H.E. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, has announced that the committee responsible for reviewing cases of Bahraini citizenship acquisition is actively working to rectify any errors. The committee has started taking legal action in accordance with established procedures for completed files. Individuals who have obtained Bahraini citizenship in violation of the law are being dealt with based on the provisions of the Nationality Law of 1963 and its amendments. This may lead to the revocation or withdrawal of citizenship and associated privileges. The Minister emphasized that actions are taken against individuals who provided false or forged information or documents to obtain citizenship, misused citizenship, or harmed the interests and social security of the Kingdom. Fraudulently obtaining Bahraini citizenship is considered a crime against the nation.

Citizenship holds significant value as it plays a crucial role in strengthening social security, safeguarding national identity, and preserving it. The Minister stressed that acquiring citizenship should only be through legal means and anyone obtaining it without justification will face consequences. The committee is dedicated to uncovering the truth based on compelling evidence and sufficient convictions, allowing for a review of those who acquired citizenship through illegal means. The hotline “997,” established by the Ministry of Interior to report any information, complaints, or observations related to the unlawful acquisition of Bahraini citizenship, has received approximately 146 reports between June 27th and July 23rd, 2024. Reports mostly related to non-biological children and individuals obtaining citizenship without fulfilling the required duration. The committee has initiated contact with those who submitted reports to update them on the findings.

The Minister emphasized the committee’s efforts in ensuring that citizenship is granted and maintained through legal procedures. Illegal acquisition of citizenship undermines the state that has provided support, security, and a source of livelihood to individuals. Those found guilty of fraudulently obtaining citizenship will face repercussions to uphold the sanctity of citizenship and national security. The Minister also commended the cooperation of the public in reporting suspicious cases of unlawful citizenship acquisition through the hotline. It is crucial for everyone to play a role in safeguarding the integrity of citizenship and upholding the laws governing its acquisition. The committee remains committed to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the interests of the Kingdom by taking action against those who abuse the privilege of Bahraini citizenship.

The Minister highlighted the importance of citizenship as a foundation for social security and national identity. Those who obtained citizenship through deceptive means or by bypassing legal requirements are being held accountable. The committee’s diligence in reviewing cases and taking necessary actions against offenders demonstrates the commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the integrity of citizenship acquisition in Bahrain. The hotline “997” serves as a vital tool for reporting any suspicious activities related to unlawful citizenship acquisition, and the public’s cooperation has been instrumental in identifying cases that require further investigation. The efforts of the committee are aimed at protecting the interests of the Kingdom and maintaining the sanctity of citizenship as a symbol of national pride and identity.
