The State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Norway have a long-standing relationship characterized by political, economic, and trade cooperation. The recent visit of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Norway marks a significant step towards strengthening global partnerships and expanding cooperation with friendly nations. Norway, known for its diversified economy supported by the Government Pension Fund Global, plays a vital role in international affairs, sponsoring mediations and advocating for humanitarian causes.

In January 2024, H M King Harald V of Norway received H E Nadia bint Ahmad Al Sheebi as the non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Qatar to Norway, further solidifying the growing relationship between the two countries. Military cooperation discussions took place during a visit by the Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces to Norway, highlighting the importance of collaboration in defense sectors. Economic ties between Qatar and Norway were also emphasized during the Qatar-Norway Business Meeting, where investments in various sectors were discussed, such as energy, maritime industries, and food security.

The first round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Qatar and Norway in 2019 resulted in a memorandum of understanding to establish regular political consultations. A visit by Minister of Trade and Industry in Norway, H E Torbjorn Roe Isaksen, to Qatar in the same year showcased the deepening trade ties between the two countries, with Norwegian investments in Qatar reaching $10 billion. The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the cooperation between QAFCO and Norwegian Yara International highlighted the success of these partnerships in the industrial and energy sectors.

QAFCO, a key player in the global fertilizer market, contributes significantly to global food security by exporting its products worldwide. The CEO of Yara International emphasized the importance of sustainable production of mineral fertilizers to enhance food production, while the CEO of Hydro highlighted the role of aluminum in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Meetings between the Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar and Norwegian officials further underscored the strong trade relationship between the two countries, with agreements in place to prevent double taxation and fiscal evasion.

The ongoing collaboration between Qatar and Norway extends beyond political and economic spheres, with a shared commitment to resolving international crises and promoting peace and stability. The visit of the Qatari Amir to Norway and the various meetings and agreements between officials from both countries signal a deepening of ties that will continue to benefit both nations in the years to come. With a shared focus on sustainable development, innovation, and global partnerships, Qatar and Norway are poised to further enhance their cooperation across multiple sectors.
