Irish-American writer Garth Ennis, known for creating popular comic series like Preacher and The Boys, has written a script for a film adaptation of his comic Crossed. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the movie is based on the first 10 issues of the Crossed series, which was originally published between 2008-10. The story revolves around a pandemic-stricken world where people who get infected with a disease are marked with a cross-like rash on their faces, turning them into homicidal maniacs.

The Crossed franchise has expanded to over 200 issues over the years, with contributions from various writers and artists including acclaimed Watchmen scribe Alan Moore. Six Studios is currently on the hunt for a director to helm the movie adaptation. Carl Choi of Six Studios will produce the film, alongside Ben Hung of Retro Entertainment and Ken Levin of Nightsky Productions. Ennis, Hung, and Levin collaborated on the proposal which they sold to Six Studios. The project will be executive produced by Jeff Huang, Ennis, Carl Amari, and Bill Patterson.

Ennis’ The Boys adaptation on Amazon has been a huge success, ranking among the most-watched TV shows on the platform. The series has garnered multiple spin-offs and is set to conclude with its upcoming fifth season. Preacher, another Ennis creation, aired for four seasons from 2016 to 2019. According to Choi, the Crossed script is an intimate human story that remains faithful to the original comic series. The movie aims to capture the dark and gritty nature of the source material while delivering a thrilling cinematic experience.

With the success of The Boys and Preacher adaptations, fans are eager to see how Crossed will be brought to life on the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter’s announcement of the film adaptation has sparked excitement among comic book enthusiasts and movie buffs alike. Ennis’ unique storytelling style and skill for crafting complex characters are expected to shine through in the Crossed movie, making it a must-watch for fans of the original series.

The Crossed movie promises to be a tense and exhilarating experience, with its dystopian setting and morally ambiguous characters. Ennis’ exploration of human nature and society’s unraveling in the face of a deadly outbreak will provide audiences with a thought-provoking narrative that delves into the darkest corners of humanity. As the project moves forward, fans can expect more updates on casting, production details, and release dates, building anticipation for what is sure to be a thrilling cinematic adaptation of one of Ennis’ most iconic works.
