Forum in Brazil highlights Qatar’s sustainability efforts

Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie recently led a delegation from Qatar to participate in the One Planet Network Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The forum’s theme was centered around reducing inequalities and achieving just transitions for all through sustainable consumption and production, including circular economy. Dr. Al Subaie took part in the opening session and two ministerial panels, where he highlighted Qatar’s efforts in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, which have been instrumental in the nation’s sustainability achievements.

During his participation, Dr. Al Subaie emphasized that Qatar’s success in sustainability is a result of forward-thinking strategies outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030. Initiatives such as the National Climate Change Action Plan and the Third National Development Strategy have played a significant role in driving sustainable development through circular economy practices, research, innovation, and the responsible management of water resources, waste, air quality, and biodiversity. These frameworks have paved the way for Qatar to make significant strides in environmental conservation and climate change mitigation.

On the sidelines of the forum, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie engaged in discussions with Nepal’s Minister of Forests and Environment H E Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Head of the forum Jorge Laguna-Celis, and various international officials. The conversations focused on topics of mutual interest, particularly in environmental conservation and combating the effects of climate change. These meetings served as a platform for sharing best practices, collaborating on solutions, and strengthening partnerships in the global effort to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.

Qatar’s participation in the One Planet Network Forum highlights the country’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship on the global stage. By showcasing its achievements and sharing its experiences with international partners, Qatar is playing a key role in advancing the agenda for sustainable consumption and production, and driving momentum towards a more circular economy.
