India’s nail-biting win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final sparked wild celebrations in Dubai on Saturday night as jubilant fans hit the streets, beat drums and sang until midnight. Rohit Sharma’s Indian team ended years of heartbreak in ICC events by winning their second T20 World Cup title with a seven-run win in a last-over thriller against South Africa in Barbados. As Hardik Pandya defended 16 runs in the final over of the gripping contest, Bur Dubai streets were swarming with people in blue jerseys celebrating one of India’s greatest wins on the global stage.

Dubai resident Bhavesh D. Kikla expressed his excitement about the celebrations and said, “It was amazing to see so many people celebrating in the streets, Meena Bazar was buzzing after the final ball was bowled.” Residents of Dubai were enjoying the electrifying atmosphere, feeling like they were in India rather than Dubai. The mood shifted dramatically throughout the match, with Kikla admitting that at one point they felt down and out when South Africa was on the verge of victory. However, the valiant effort of the Indian bowlers turned the match around, making the victory even more special.

The catch by Suryakumar Yadav to dismiss David Miller was a defining moment in the match for Kikla, who described it as unbelievable and crucial to India’s win. The celebrations continued among fans like Vikas Chandra, who watched the game with friends and reflected on the retirement of senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja after the match. Chandra expressed his admiration for MS Dhoni, recalling the World Cup wins under his captaincy and his personal connection to Dhoni from their hometown in Bihar.

Gopal Jasapara, a cricket coach in Dubai, praised the performance of Jasprit Bumrah in the final, highlighting his consistency throughout the tournament. He also commended Hardik Pandya for his strong comeback after a tough IPL season and lauded his contribution to India’s victory in the T20 World Cup. The unity and teamwork displayed by the Indian cricket team, especially under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, received appreciation from fans like Jasapara, who emphasized the importance of putting the team above individual accomplishments.

Dishang Mehta, another Dubai resident, felt that the victory in the T20 World Cup final was a fitting farewell to Virat Kohli, who played a crucial role with his 76-run innings. Mehta suggested retiring Kohli’s jersey number 18 as a mark of respect for the legendary cricketer. The euphoria of India’s World Cup win transcended borders, bringing together fans in Dubai to celebrate a historic moment in cricket. The passion and joy exhibited by supporters reflected the deep-rooted love for the sport and the pride in India’s triumph on the global stage.
