These updates, approved during yesterday’s meeting, include adjustments to road layouts, parking regulations, and significant progress on major projects like the Muharraq-Arad bridge, all contributing to better infrastructure in Muharraq.

Muharraq Council Approves Traffic and Parking Adjustments

The council meeting focused on delivering practical solutions to local traffic challenges and improving accessibility for residents and businesses. Several specific items received the green light, demonstrating a proactive approach to urban planning. Notably, the council addressed localized concerns regarding parking and road flow within the East Hidd area.

East Hidd Parking & Access Changes

Specifically, councillors voted to waive on-site parking requirements for a property located in East Hidd, addressing a unique situation likely tied to the property’s specific layout and surrounding infrastructure. This decision showcases the council’s willingness to consider individual cases and foster development.

Beyond parking, modifications to Roads 2207 and 2205 were also approved. Following deliberation, Road 2207 will remain a two-way street, maintaining existing traffic flow. Conversely, Road 2205 will be converted into a one-way road, designated for exit traffic only. This change is intended to streamline movement and reduce congestion in the area.

Further investigation was requested by the council regarding access points onto Al Busaiteen Avenue. A comprehensive review will be undertaken to optimize traffic flow and ensure safety for pedestrians and drivers alike. The council also endorsed a plan to alter the entrance and exit layout of a building near Road 2010, relocating it to an adjacent road within East Hidd for improved accessibility. These smaller adjustments collectively contribute to a more efficient and user-friendly transportation network.

Progress on the Muharraq-Arad Bridge Link

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the progress of the bridge link connecting Muharraq and Arad. The project, a major undertaking aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and fostering connectivity, is currently 85% complete, according to updates provided by the Ministry of Works.

Ebrahim Al Khayat, representing the Ministry, highlighted the intricate design and construction involved. He explained that the project encompasses a substantial sea bridge boasting three lanes in each direction. This substantial capacity will significantly ease travel between the two areas.

Furthermore, the project includes vital improvements to the interchange with Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway. This comprises the construction of a flyover designed to accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic, coupled with upgrades to the ground-level infrastructure. The comprehensive scope of the work demonstrates a commitment to creating a robust and modern transportation hub. Efficient road construction Bahrain is a key component of the nation’s development plans.

Enhancing Access to Bahrain International Airport: Falcon Junction Updates

The council also received a detailed update on the ongoing roadworks near Bahrain International Airport, specifically focusing on the improvements being made at Falcon Junction. The primary objective of these works is to enhance access to the airport, increasing capacity and minimizing traffic queues on the approach roads.

Phase 3A and Key Improvements

Phase 3A of the Falcon Junction project is currently 18% complete. Al Khayat outlined several key features of this phase, illustrating the scale and ambition of the improvements. A new one-way flyover, providing a two-lane slip road, will enable a continuous flow of traffic onto Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway.

Additionally, Arad Highway will be widened from three lanes to four in each direction, dramatically increasing throughput. Recognizing the importance of effective drainage, the project also includes the installation of a new water culvert to improve drainage into Arad Bay, mitigating potential flooding issues and enhancing the long-term resilience of the infrastructure. The Ministry is prioritizing smooth traffic flow Bahrain for both residents and travelers.

These upgrades are integral to supporting the growing demands on Bahrain’s transportation network, particularly as the airport continues to expand and welcome an increasing number of passengers.

Looking Ahead: Continued Collaboration and Development

The meeting between the Muharraq Municipal Council and the Ministry of Works exemplifies a strong working relationship focused on delivering tangible benefits to the community. The approved adjustments to traffic and parking, along with the impressive progress on major infrastructure projects, underscore the ongoing commitment to improving the governorate’s connectivity and livability.

The ongoing commitment to reviewing and optimizing traffic patterns, combined with the substantial investment in new infrastructure, positions Muharraq for continued growth and development. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about project updates and provide feedback to the council to ensure that the enhancements meet their needs and contribute to a thriving community.
