The ninth edition of QOMRA week at the National University of Science and Technology’s College of Engineering campus, entitled “Manifestation”, recently kicked off with an inauguration ceremony attended by Sayyid Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi, the Undersecretary of Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The photography exhibition, organized by the QOMRA club, received a total of 343 entries from 96 photographers, with 32 photographers making it to the final selection. The exhibition features 40 photographs with various styles and themes, with Ghalib Al Hadabi, Ahad Al Alawi, and Al Yaqdhan Al Darmaki snagging the top three spots.

Ahad Al Alawi, a student at Sultan Qaboos University, expressed gratitude towards his university’s photo society for providing him with opportunities to hone his photography skills while balancing his academic pursuits. His project, “Behind the Curtain,” secured second place at the National University Photography Week. The photo captures a ballet dancer backstage, brimming with anticipation and anxiety, showcasing a blend of monochromatic tones that illuminate her raw emotions. Al Alawi’s artistic vision in capturing the internal struggle between self-doubt and passion is evident in this poignant image.

QOMRA week serves as a platform for the QOMRA club to showcase their dedication to the community through various activities and events. The exhibition not only highlights the talent and creativity of aspiring photographers but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and support within the photography community. The event reflects the club’s commitment to nurturing and promoting artistic expression among its members, encouraging them to explore diverse themes and styles in their work.

The success of QOMRA week can be attributed to the collaboration and participation of photographers from different backgrounds, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the table. The diverse range of photographs on display at the exhibition serves as a testament to the rich tapestry of talent within the photography community. The event provides a platform for emerging photographers to showcase their work, gain recognition, and receive constructive feedback from their peers, fostering growth and development in their artistic journey.

In addition to promoting creativity and artistic expression, QOMRA week also plays a crucial role in building a sense of community and collaboration among photographers. By providing a platform for photographers to network, share ideas, and engage with one another, the event fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals to grow and thrive in their creative endeavors. The exhibition serves as a melting pot of talent, where photographers can learn from one another, exchange insights, and build lasting connections that enrich their artistic practice.

Overall, the success of QOMRA week underscores the importance of fostering creativity, collaboration, and community within the photography industry. Through events like these, aspiring photographers have the opportunity to showcase their work, gain recognition, and connect with like-minded individuals who share their passion for photography. The exhibition serves as a celebration of talent, diversity, and artistic expression, highlighting the profound impact that photography can have on individuals and communities alike.
