The Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and the Telegram platform recently announced that they had successfully removed over 129 million pieces of extremist content in the third quarter of 2024. This joint effort also resulted in the closure of 14,516 extremist channels on the platform. Their operations primarily targeted propaganda activities of terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and Al-Qaeda, leading to the removal of 35 million extremist posts and the closure of 323 extremist channels.

ISIS emerged as the primary focus of these efforts, with over 34 million pieces of extremist content removed and 189 channels closed. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham followed with 768,821 posts removed and 87 channels closed, while Al-Qaeda had 263,489 pieces of content removed and 47 channels closed. A significant spike in ISIS propaganda activities was observed on September 13, 2024, when 1.2 million extremist posts were broadcasted.

The increased cooperation between Etidal and Telegram in monitoring and removing terrorist propaganda underscores their commitment to preventing and countering violent extremism. Their joint efforts specifically target extremist content in Arabic, reflecting a broader mission to combat the spread of terrorist ideologies online. By removing millions of pieces of extremist content and shutting down numerous extremist channels, Etidal and Telegram are taking proactive steps to disrupt the online presence of terrorist organizations and prevent the radicalization of individuals.

The partnership between Etidal and Telegram represents a proactive approach to combating extremism in the digital space. By swiftly identifying and removing extremist content, they are disrupting the dissemination of terrorist propaganda and limiting its reach to potential audiences. The closure of thousands of extremist channels demonstrates a commitment to dismantling the online infrastructure that supports radical ideologies and extremist activities.

The successful removal of over 129 million pieces of extremist content is a significant accomplishment in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism. By targeting the propaganda activities of major terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and Al-Qaeda, Etidal and Telegram are effectively reducing the online presence of these groups and limiting their ability to recruit and radicalize individuals. This proactive approach to monitoring and removing extremist content is essential in preventing the spread of violent ideologies and promoting a safer online environment for all users.

The cooperation between Etidal and Telegram serves as a model for other platforms and organizations looking to address the issue of extremist content online. By working together to identify and remove millions of pieces of propaganda, they are sending a clear message that terrorist activities will not be tolerated on their platforms. The ongoing efforts of Etidal and Telegram demonstrate the importance of collaboration and vigilance in combating extremism and safeguarding online communities from the harmful effects of radical ideologies.
