Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi recently attended an honouring ceremony for the first batch of teachers in the Qatari Teachers Fellowship Program (Khebrat). The program, which was launched in 2023 by the MoEHE, sent 15 Qatari public school teachers to Finland for a professional development program. Over the course of two months, the teachers learned about the educational system in Finland and acquired skills that they could apply in their classrooms back in Qatar. The Minister praised the outcomes of the program and highlighted the impact it will have on schools, students, and teachers in Qatar.

During the ceremony, the teachers presented projects that demonstrated their critical thinking and analysis skills, which they could then pass on to their students. The Minister emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and promoting lifelong learning through programs like Khebrat. She expressed her hopes for the program to expand in terms of content, numbers, and specializations in the future. The goal is to continue investing in human resources in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

The Director of the Training and Development Center at MoEHE, Iman Al Mohannadi, also spoke at the ceremony about the phases, implementation, and results of the Khebrat program. She highlighted the importance of the program in terms of investing in human resources and preparing teachers for the challenges of the future. The Ministry is already preparing to open registration for the second batch of the program, with plans to expand the specializations to include subjects like Arabic and Islamic education in addition to science, mathematics, and English.

The honouring ceremony was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education H E Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, as well as a number of senior ministry officials. The successful implementation of the Khebrat program demonstrates Qatar’s commitment to improving the quality of education and investing in the professional development of teachers. By sending teachers abroad for training and fostering a culture of lifelong learning, Qatar is positioning itself as a leader in education in the region.

Overall, the Qatari Teachers Fellowship Program (Khebrat) has proven to be a valuable initiative that has already had a positive impact on teachers and students in Qatar. The Minister’s praise for the program and her hopes for its expansion reflect the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the country. By investing in the professional development of teachers and promoting lifelong learning, Qatar is positioning itself as a leader in education in the region. The success of the program bodes well for the future of education in Qatar and underscores the importance of initiatives that promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences among educators.
