Mosquito sightings have increased in the UAE, particularly after heavy rainfalls on April 16, prompting the country to announce efforts to control and reduce pest infestation. In Dubai, the municipality has escalated its measures by using chemical control methods and educating residents on how to prevent mosquito proliferation. Focus areas include parks, markets, drainage sites, water bodies, residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Teams are working tirelessly to control the spread and maintain a pest-free environment.

The objective is to strengthen the public health system, ensure community protection, and maintain a disease-free environment by implementing approved control methods including chemical, physical, and biological techniques. The Director of the Public Health Services Department in Dubai Municipality, Adel Al Karrani, highlighted the extensive disinfection and sterilization operations after the rainstorm. Actions include using bacterial capsules for larval control, spraying pesticides for adult mosquitoes, strategically placing mosquito traps, and applying eco-friendly pesticides to safeguard residents and the environment.

Dubai Municipality has issued guidelines to contracting companies to implement pest control measures effectively. Strategic plans in partnership with government entities, regular field inspections at construction sites, and monitoring real-time demands and capabilities are in place to enhance control strategies. Residents are encouraged to monitor water leakages, eliminate stagnant water, wear light-colored clothing, install window and door screens, renew animal drinking water, and use insect repellents containing Deet or Picaridin to combat mosquitoes.

Overall, the municipality is ensuring proactive measures to control mosquito infestations and protect public health. By utilizing a combination of chemical and eco-friendly methods, along with strategic plans and community involvement, the authorities aim to maintain a sanitary environment free from disease-carrying pests. Residents are urged to take preventive actions and follow guidelines to reduce the spread of mosquitoes and ensure the well-being of all individuals in the UAE. Stay informed and follow the Dubai Municipality’s initiatives to stay updated on the latest pest control measures.
