The UAE’s road toll operator Salik has placed boards in various locations inside and outside Dubai Mall ahead of the implementation of paid parking for visitors. The branding can be seen at all parking entrances, but no visible barriers or cameras were observed. Paid parking will start on July 1 at Dubai Mall in collaboration with Salik, with charges applicable to Grand, Cinema, and Fashion Parking areas, while Zabeel and Fountain View parkings will remain free for the time being.

Signages indicating the rates of paid parking have been placed inside the mall, with the facility offering four hours of free parking on weekdays and six hours on weekends. Additional charges will apply for every hour beyond the free period, ranging from Dh20 to Dh1000 for parking for over 24 hours. The operators have stated that the fees will be deducted from a car’s Salik account upon exiting the parking, and cars must have a Salik tag to access the Dubai Mall parking.

On Sunday evening, mall security guards were present at the entrance of all parking areas to direct and re-route cars. It is essential for vehicles to have a Salik tag for parking access, and it is not clear how cars without the tag will be managed and stopped from using the paid parking facilities. The introduction of paid parking at Dubai Mall marks a significant change for visitors and shoppers, as they will now have to pay for parking after the free period ends. The new system aims to manage parking more efficiently and prevent overcrowding in the mall’s parking areas. With the utilization of Salik tags for payment, the process is streamlined and connected to the existing road toll system in the UAE.

As Dubai Mall is one of the most visited destinations in the city, the implementation of paid parking is expected to have a significant impact on visitor behavior and the overall traffic flow in the area. The decision to partner with Salik for parking management indicates a strategic move to leverage existing technology and infrastructure for more seamless operations. The collaboration between Dubai Mall and Salik reflects a commitment to innovation and modernization in the management of public spaces.
