Muscat recently experienced a heat wave with temperatures soaring to nearly 50 degrees Celsius, causing discomfort for residents and visitors alike. The extreme heat has led to an increase in cases of heat exhaustion and dehydration, prompting doctors to advise precautions. With the onset of summer, it is crucial for individuals to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent health issues.

As the region braces for the full force of summer, adjustments in daily routines and outdoor activities become necessary to cope with the challenging climate. Outdoor tasks should be limited or conducted with caution, especially during peak temperatures. Industries reliant on outdoor labor, such as construction and agriculture, have implemented guidelines to protect workers, including shaded rest areas and hydration breaks.

Doctors in Oman have observed a rise in the number of patients seeking medical care due to the heat wave. Symptoms such as high-grade fever, headaches, and heat exhaustion have become more prevalent as temperatures continue to rise. It is essential for individuals to take precautions such as avoiding peak hours, staying hydrated, and seeking medical attention if experiencing symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

Dr. Dilip Singhvi, a Specialist in Internal Medicine and Diabetes, emphasized the importance of taking precautions during the summer season. He advised avoiding peak hours, staying hydrated, and seeking medical attention if experiencing symptoms such as body aches, dizziness, or fever. Dr. Sanjay Dalal, a General Practitioner, noted an increase in patients visiting clinics due to severe dehydration and heat-related illnesses, particularly among construction workers, gardeners, and cleaners.

As Oman experiences dust storms during the summer, with powerful gusts of wind triggering allergic reactions and affecting the respiratory tract, precautions should be taken to prevent respiratory infections. People, especially vulnerable individuals such as children, may experience asthma, allergic bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions. Regular intake of oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and seeking medical attention for severe symptoms are recommended.

In conclusion, as Oman faces intense heat during the summer months, it is crucial for individuals to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses and stay safe. It is advised to limit outdoor activities during peak temperatures, stay hydrated, seek shade, and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion or dehydration. Employers in industries reliant on outdoor labor should implement guidelines to protect workers, and individuals should be mindful of the risks associated with extreme heat and dust storms. By following these precautions, individuals can better cope with the challenging climate in Oman and stay healthy during the summer season.
