The Kingdom of Bahrain recently emphasized the importance of compliance with international law, particularly international humanitarian law and human rights law, in order to protect civilians in armed conflicts globally. This call to action was made during a speech delivered by the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, H.E. Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie, during the Security Council’s open discussion on civilians and armed conflict. The speech coincided with the 25th anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1265 (1999) and the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions from 1949.

During the discussion, the Permanent Representative highlighted the success of the 33rd Arab Summit, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on May 16th of this year. He specifically mentioned the initiatives put forth by the Kingdom and adopted by the summit, as outlined in the Bahrain Declaration. These initiatives included the call for an international peace conference in the Middle East to address the Palestinian issue, support for the State of Palestine’s UN membership, and the provision of health and educational services.

The call for compliance with international law and the focus on protecting civilians in armed conflicts aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to peace and stability in the region and around the world. By advocating for adherence to international humanitarian and human rights law, Bahrain is taking a proactive stance in promoting a safer and more secure environment for all individuals affected by armed conflicts.

The emphasis on the importance of international law and the protection of civilians in armed conflicts comes at a critical time, with ongoing conflicts and crises occurring in various parts of the world. Bahrain’s efforts to address these issues through diplomatic channels and international forums demonstrate a commitment to upholding global peace and security.

As a key player in the region, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s stance on compliance with international law sends a strong message to other nations about the necessity of prioritizing the protection of civilians in conflict situations. By highlighting the success of the 33rd Arab Summit and the initiatives put forth in the Bahrain Declaration, Bahrain sets an example for other countries to follow in advocating for peace and stability on the global stage.

Overall, Bahrain’s call for compliance with international law and the focus on protecting civilians in armed conflicts underscores the Kingdom’s dedication to promoting peace and security both regionally and globally. Through diplomatic efforts and engagement in international discussions, Bahrain continues to play a significant role in advocating for the rights and safety of individuals affected by armed conflicts worldwide.
