Bahrain Becomes a Member of Interpol to Fight Against Online Child Abuse

Bahrain has taken action against online sexual exploitation of children by joining Interpol’s international database to enhance its capability to address such cases effectively. The Cyberspace Child Protection Unit will utilize this database to share information and expertise with other member states. This initiative comes from the directives of General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, to protect children in digital environments. Lieutenant-General Tariq Al Hassan oversees this effort, ensuring that Bahrain is equipped with the necessary tools to combat online exploitation.

Brigadier General Bassam Mohammed Al Miraj, Director-General of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, emphasized the importance of this initiative in safeguarding children. The recent completion of a comprehensive training course by several unit members at Interpol’s headquarters in Lyon, France, has equipped them with techniques to combat online sexual exploitation of children effectively. Techniques such as reconnaissance, data downloading, and result analysis were covered in the 14-day course, providing the unit members with the skills needed to protect children in digital spaces.

The Director-General highlighted the significance of leveraging regional and international expertise in protecting children from online exploitation. By joining Interpol’s international database, Bahrain has taken a significant step towards enhancing its ability to address cases of sexual and digital exploitation of children. With oversight from Chief of Public Security, Lieutenant-General Tariq Al Hassan, Bahrain is committed to utilizing the resources and training received to combat online exploitation effectively.

With the increasing prevalence of online sexual exploitation, it is crucial for countries to join forces and share information to protect children in digital environments. Bahrain’s participation in Interpol’s international database demonstrates its commitment to safeguarding children and addressing cases of online exploitation.
