Atalanta sack coach Juric after poor start to season

Atalanta has sacked Croatian coach Ivan Juric following consecutive Serie A defeats that left the team in the lower half of the standings. The club announced the decision on Monday, citing the team’s recent performance as the reason for Juric’s dismissal.

The Bergamo-based club suffered a 3-0 home loss to Sassuolo on Sunday, dropping to 13th place in the league standings. Atalanta’s early season promise, marked by a nine-match unbeaten streak, was tempered by seven draws, and their recent losses to Udinese and Sassuolo.

Ivan Juric’s Tenure at Atalanta

Juric’s departure comes after a tumultuous period at Atalanta, where he replaced the highly successful Gian Piero Gasperini, who left for Roma in the summer. Juric’s previous stint as Roma’s coach lasted less than two months last year, before he took over at English side Southampton.

However, his time at Southampton was also cut short when the team became the earliest to suffer relegation from the Premier League in early April. Juric stepped down as the team’s coach, and his dismissal from Atalanta marks another short tenure for the Croatian coach.

Atalanta’s Current State

In contrast to their domestic struggles, Atalanta has fared relatively better in European competition, currently sitting 16th in the Champions League table with seven points from four games. The team’s performance in the Champions League has been a bright spot, but their Serie A form has raised concerns.

According to the club’s statement, Juric and his coaching staff have all been dismissed. The decision to sack Juric is likely due to the team’s poor performance in the league, which has seen them drop to 13th place.

Implications for Atalanta’s Future

Atalanta’s next steps will be closely watched, as they seek to appoint a new coach to replace Juric. The club will need to find a suitable replacement quickly, as they continue their campaign in both Serie A and the Champions League.

Meanwhile, the search for a new coach is expected to be a priority for Atalanta’s management. The team’s performance in the coming weeks will be crucial in determining their trajectory for the rest of the season.

As Atalanta looks to the future, the appointment of a new coach will be a key factor in their success. The club’s decision will be influenced by their current state and future prospects, both domestically and in Europe.

The appointment process is expected to be completed in the coming days, with Atalanta likely to announce their new coach soon. The team’s fans will be eagerly awaiting news of Juric’s replacement, and the impact it will have on their season.
