Argentina and Spain secure victories on opening day

The Group C match between Qatar and Chile at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex saw Chile emerge victorious with a 3-0 win over the host country. On the opening day of the FIP World Padel Championships in Doha, favourites Argentina and Spain also secured dominant wins. Spain’s strong performance was highlighted by World No.1 Arturo Coello and No. 8 Francisco Navarro’s crushing victory over their opponents. Meanwhile, Argentina’s top pair, Agustin Tapia and Federico Chingotto, put up a strong fight against Italy to secure a clean sweep in their opening Group A match.

In the men’s division, UAE beat Paraguay 2-1, while Belgium defeated the USA 2-1. Qatar will face off against France in their second tie in Group C. On the women’s side, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, and Germany secured victories in their respective matches. Title favourites Argentina and Spain also secured dominant 3-0 wins against USA and Brazil. The President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel, and Badminton Federation, Nasser bin Ghanem Al Khelaifi, emphasized Qatar’s strong commitment to promoting and developing the sport both locally and internationally, highlighting the country’s advanced sports infrastructure.

The opening day of the FIP World Padel Championships in Doha saw Spain and Argentina dominate their respective matches against Mexico and Italy. Spain’s victory was powered by top-ranked padel stars such as Juan Lebron and Miguel Yanguas, who set the pace with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the opening match. Arturo Coello and Francisco Navarro continued Spain’s winning streak with a crushing victory, while Alejandro Galan and Alejandro Ruiz sealed the clean sweep. Similarly, Argentina’s top pair, Agustin Tapia and Federico Chingotto, secured a victory against Italy’s A Patiniotis and L Di Giovanni, with other Argentine pairs also contributing to the team’s 3-0 win.

In a thrilling match against Qatar, Chile emerged victorious with J Valdes and G Valdivieso Comesana giving their team an early lead. Despite strong resistance from Jabor Al Mutawa and Hassan Adel Waly, S Munoz Campos and I A Lehyt Sances secured another win for Chile. C Molina and C Martinez sealed Chile’s victory over Qatar. In other match-ups on Day 1 in the men’s division, UAE defeated Paraguay 2-1, while Belgium secured a 2-1 win over the USA. Today, Qatar will face France in their second tie in Group C, as the tournament progresses with exciting match-ups.

On the women’s side, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, and Germany secured victories in their respective matches. Title favourites Argentina and Spain also secured dominant wins against USA and Brazil. President Nasser bin Ghanem Al Khelaifi highlighted Qatar’s commitment to promoting sports and hosting global events, showcasing the country’s advanced sports infrastructure.
