Argentina and Spain are top picks as World Padel Championships kick off in Doha.

The 2024 FIP World Padel Championships kicked off at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha, Qatar, with Spain and Argentina as the favourites in the men’s category. The prestigious event, hosted by the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation, features 32 of the world’s top men’s and women’s teams. The draw ceremony took place in the presence of key officials, setting up mouthwatering clashes in the four groups for each division.

Argentina, aiming for their 12th men’s title, will be in Group A along with Belgium, Italy, and USA. Spain, the four-time champions, lead Group B with Paraguay, Mexico, and UAE. Group C sees France, hosts Qatar, Chile, and Uruguay challenging each other, while Group D features heavyweights Portugal, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Sweden. FIP President Carraro expressed excitement for the tournament, highlighting the growth of national teams and predicting an incredible edition.

Qatar, a growing force in Padel, is ready to showcase their talent on the international stage. Led by experienced coaching duo Sisti and Bogarin, the team features a mix of seasoned players and emerging talent. The squad, including Alhijji, Hassan, Aljufairi, Abdulla, Al Mutawa, Adel Waly, and Al Kuwari, will face Chile, France, and Uruguay in the group stage matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, while the third and fourth-ranked teams will compete for ninth to sixteenth positions.

In the women’s side, Spain, champions in 2022 and European champions in 2024, lead Group A with Germany, Brazil, and Chile. Argentina, the runners-up in 2022, are in Group B with Portugal, the USA, and Egypt. Italy, Sweden, Uruguay, and Japan are in Group C, while Group D features Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Denmark. The competition promises exciting matchups and intense clashes as teams vie for the title in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Overall, the 2024 FIP World Padel Championships in Doha feature top teams from around the world competing for glory on the international stage. With strong contenders like Spain and Argentina leading the charge, the tournament is set to be a thrilling showcase of skill and talent. Fans can expect intense clashes and exciting matchups as teams battle for the coveted title in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
