Air India, the Tata Group-owned airline, recently welcomed its first Airbus A320 Neo in a new livery. The aircraft, registered as VT-RTN, landed in New Delhi from Toulouse, France, marking a significant milestone in the company’s transformation journey. This new addition to the fleet features a three-class configuration, including luxury business class seats, premium economy seats with extra legroom, and comfortable economy class seats. It is the first time Air India is offering premium economy on its narrow-body aircraft, with plans to start operations in August 2024 on domestic short-haul routes.

Currently, three A320 Neo aircraft with the old Air India livery have already started operations within the domestic network. The airline plans to enhance the flying experience for its guests by deploying new, upgraded, and refurbished aircraft across both narrow-body and wide-body fleets starting early next year. Founded by J.R.D. Tata, Air India has a long history in the aviation sector, with its first flight taking off in 1932. The airline operates non-stop flights to major cities worldwide, including destinations in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Far East, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Gulf.

After 69 years as a government-owned enterprise, Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express were brought back into the Tata Group in January 2022. The airline is currently undergoing a five-year transformation roadmap under Vihaan.AI to become a world-class airline with an Indian heart. The first phase of this transformation, known as the Taxi phase, focused on returning grounded aircraft to service, recruiting additional talent, upgrading technology, and enhancing customer care initiatives.

Air India is a member of Star Alliance, the world’s largest global airline consortium, which enables the airline to offer extensive connectivity and facilitate travel for passengers worldwide. With a focus on improving the passenger experience and expanding its global reach, Air India is positioning itself as a competitive player in the aviation industry. The addition of the new A320 Neo aircraft with premium economy seating is a step towards providing customers with a more comfortable and luxurious travel experience.
