In Abu Dhabi, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has launched an initiative to map noise levels in the emirate. The main objective of this initiative is to identify various noise sources and determine the most affected residential areas. By collecting this information, EAD will be able to assess the impact of noise pollution in each district and create a map to target the most affected areas. Eng. Faisal Al Hammadi, Executive Director of Environmental Quality Sector at EAD, mentioned that a noise committee comprising more than 10 government entities has been formed to support this initiative.

The emirate has been monitoring ambient noise since 2007 through the air quality monitoring network. This new noise mapping initiative aims to provide a detailed and accurate representation of noise pollution across Abu Dhabi, showcasing the commitment to the environment. The data gathered through this initiative will also assist in developing mitigation measures to address the noise pollution issue. This initiative will benefit health authorities, city planners, and engineers by enabling them to identify potential health risks and take necessary measures to protect residential areas from high noise levels.

City planners can utilize noise modelling to implement measures such as sound barriers, green spaces, and infrastructure changes to mitigate the impact of noise pollution on residential zones or schools. By mapping noise levels, the authorities can take informed decisions to reduce the adverse effects of noise pollution on the residents of Abu Dhabi. This initiative demonstrates a proactive approach by the government in addressing environmental concerns and ensuring the well-being of the community. Through the collaboration of multiple government entities and the implementation of innovative strategies, Abu Dhabi is taking significant steps towards managing and reducing noise pollution in the emirate. The development of noise maps will provide valuable insights into the most affected areas, allowing for targeted solutions to mitigate noise pollution. By implementing mitigation measures based on the data collected, the authorities can work towards creating a healthier and more peaceful environment for residents. This initiative showcases the commitment of Abu Dhabi to environmental conservation and sustainable development, setting a positive example for other cities worldwide.
