Small-scale plant production farms in Abu Dhabi are set to be regulated by authorities to ensure sustainable use of natural resources, improve the income of small farmers, and support local produce. The regulation establishes clear rules for the practice of plant production on farms with the goal of enhancing the quality of local agricultural products and making them more competitive in the market. This decision reaffirms the Abu Dhabi Government’s commitment to supporting smallholder farmers and providing a conducive environment for sustainable development in the agricultural sector.

According to Eng Ahmed Khalid Othman, the Executive Director of the Agricultural Affairs Sector at Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), the move aims to enhance food security and create a working environment that supports small farmers in achieving sustainable development. ADAFSA is also working to provide advanced extension and training services to farmers to help them adopt best agricultural practices and improve the quality of their products. The decision also includes regulations on the use of the farm’s trade name, documentation of agricultural operations, and record-keeping of production.

ADAFSA encourages members of society to support local produce and buy directly from farmers, emphasizing the significance of backing the agricultural sector and achieving food security in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to promote sustainability and boost the income of small farmers while ensuring the quality and competitiveness of local agricultural products. By regulating small-scale plant production farms, authorities aim to create a more sustainable environment that benefits both farmers and consumers.

The regulations also focus on improving the overall quality of agricultural products through the adoption of best practices and advanced training services for farmers. By standardizing the documentation and record-keeping processes on farms, authorities aim to ensure transparency and accountability in the plant production sector. The move towards regulating small-scale plant production farms signifies a step towards sustainable agricultural practices and supporting local farmers in Abu Dhabi.

Supporting local produce and buying directly from farmers not only contributes to the growth of the agricultural sector but also plays a crucial role in enhancing food security in the region. By promoting sustainable practices and providing support to small farmers, Abu Dhabi aims to create a more resilient and competitive agricultural industry. The regulation of small-scale plant production farms is aligned with the government’s commitment to sustainable development, promoting local produce, and ensuring a more robust and secure food system in Abu Dhabi.
