Residents of Block 606 in the outer area of Sitra are calling on the Ministry of Works to take proactive measures to address persistent water accumulation problems before the upcoming winter season. They emphasized that heavy rain often leads to extensive flooding, creating large pools of water that surround homes, impede movement, and prevent residents from safely exiting their properties.
Local resident Mohammad Abdulla noted that the current drainage point is inadequate, which causes water to accumulate for prolonged periods. This situation transforms the vicinity into what residents describe as a “lake of rainwater,” exacerbating the difficulties, especially for those living in low-lying areas near drainage points.
Proposed Solutions for Effective Water Management
Abdulla suggested widening the rainwater collection point to increase its capacity, viewing this as a temporary solution until the comprehensive rainwater drainage project across the kingdom is completed. He additionally advocated for the installation of pipes to channel water from the collection point to the sea, stressing that the proximity of disposal areas to the coast would facilitate quicker drainage and reduce the need for frequent pumping services.
He pointed out that the cost of removing a single truckload of water is approximately 80 Bahraini Dinars, which presents a recurring financial burden on the ministry as long as water continues to accumulate in the area. Implementing a permanent solution for efficient water drainage could relieve this financial strain and limit the ongoing need for pumping operations.
