Youth Initiative Promotes Environmental Awareness
The Youth Committee of the Al-Kamil and Al-Wafi Club recently participated in an environmental event at the Turtle Reserve, representing the “Noorq” initiative. This event was held in collaboration with the “Guardians of the Environment” initiative, implemented by the Environment Authority. The primary goal was to enhance environmental awareness among the youth, encouraging their active participation in activities aimed at protecting the environment and wildlife.
The event featured a beach clean-up campaign in the vicinity of the Turtle Reserve during the evening hours. Participants learned about the significance of maintaining clean beaches for marine turtles and the adverse effects of waste on their lives and natural habitats. Additionally, attendees were informed about the various threats and dangers that turtles face throughout their life cycle.
Hands-On Learning and Conservation Efforts
During the event, participants received detailed explanations about marine turtles and the best practices for interacting with them. The emphasis was placed on the importance of following guidelines to avoid disturbing turtles, especially during nesting and breeding processes. This aspect of the event aimed to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among both participants and visitors.
Moreover, attendees actively participated in returning baby turtles to the sea after an exploration mission, a crucial step in safeguarding their survival in their natural habitat. Participants also had the unique opportunity to observe adult turtles nesting and to learn about their life cycle and the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve their habitats.
Building a Sustainable Future Through Community Engagement
Jasem Al-Mukhaini, a member of the Youth Committee at the club, emphasized that their participation in this event aims to promote environmental culture and awareness. He noted the importance of connecting awareness with practical engagement, particularly for younger individuals. The initiative looks to contribute to developing a generation that is more cognizant of its environmental responsibilities.
In the previous edition of the initiative, there were 54 participants, including 30 contributions from the women’s youth committee. This reflects a growing interest in environmental initiatives and community participation from both genders in efforts to protect the environment and wildlife.
