Doha, Qatar – Qatar is fully prepared to host the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, officials confirmed yesterday during a press conference at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The tournament, kicking off today, will feature 16 Arab nations competing for the regional title, and organizers report strong ticket sales and logistical readiness. This event is seen as a key test ahead of future international competitions planned for the country.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) detailed final preparations, emphasizing a smooth experience for both players and fans. Ticket sales have already exceeded 700,699, with over 210,209 coming from outside of Qatar, signaling significant regional interest. The majority of international ticket purchasers are from Jordan and Saudi Arabia, according to the LOC.

Operational Readiness for the FIFA Arab Cup

Jassim Al Jassim, CEO of the LOC, stated that Qatar aims to deliver an “exceptional tournament,” building on the infrastructure and experience gained from hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He noted that the country’s busy football calendar this year, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup, has served as valuable preparation. The final batch of tickets, specifically for the opening match, were released today.

A key component of the fan experience will be free access to the Doha Metro for all match-day ticket holders. This is designed to alleviate traffic congestion and provide efficient transportation between stadiums and fan zones. Every stadium hosting a match is connected to the metro system, ensuring convenient access for attendees.

Security and Fan Experience

Colonel Dr. Jabr H. J. Al Naimi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, confirmed that comprehensive security plans are in place to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators. These plans encompass stadium security, transportation routes, and fan zones. Details of the security measures were not disclosed, but officials assured the public of a secure environment.

Saeed Al Kuwari, Hayya Director at Qatar Tourism, highlighted the efforts to enhance the overall fan experience. Match-day ticket holders will have access to dedicated fan zones at all six venues – Al Bayt, Ahmad Bin Ali, Education City, Khalifa International, Stadium 974, and Lusail Stadium – offering cultural performances, food and beverage options, games, and interactive activities. The tournament aims to showcase the region’s cultural heritage and promote Arab unity.

FIFA Head of Youth Tournaments, Roberto Grassi, praised Qatar’s consistently high hosting standards, stating the country “continues to set the benchmark” for major football events. He referenced the success of the 2021 Arab Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup as evidence of Qatar’s capabilities. The final match of the FIFA Arab Cup is scheduled for December 18th at Lusail Stadium.

Grassi also highlighted the recent successful FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Qatar, noting the positive feedback from stakeholders and the event’s role as a “festival of football.” He emphasized the importance of Qatar as a long-term partner for FIFA, with several future tournaments already planned for the country, including the Intercontinental Cup following the Arab Cup. The availability of world-class facilities and ideal conditions for football were cited as key factors in these decisions.

The opening ceremony is set to begin at 5:30 PM local time at Al Bayt Stadium, followed by the first match between Qatar and Palestine at 7:30 PM. Gates will open at 2:30 PM to accommodate the anticipated large crowds. Organizers are expecting high attendance throughout the tournament, potentially surpassing previous editions.

Looking ahead, the success of the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 will be closely monitored as a precursor to future major sporting events in Qatar. The ability to efficiently manage large crowds, maintain robust security, and deliver a positive fan experience will be crucial factors in evaluating the tournament’s overall impact. Further details regarding specific security protocols and fan zone activities are expected to be released in the coming days.
