Doha, Qatar – The Old Doha Port has announced the permanent implementation of its maritime transport service for all future events, following a successful trial during the recent Qatar Boat Show 2025. The service, designed to improve visitor experience and accessibility to the port, transported over 1,500 passengers during the four-day exhibition. This initiative marks a significant upgrade to event logistics at the port and solidifies its position as a growing maritime tourism destination.

The launch aims to provide a seamless and comfortable transportation option for visitors, connecting the port to key locations like Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha and Pearl Island. According to a statement released by the port, the expansion of this service represents a commitment to enhancing the quality of facilities and streamlining access for major events.

Enhancing Visitor Experience at the Old Doha Port with Maritime Transport

The decision to make the maritime transport service a permanent feature stems directly from its positive reception during the Qatar Boat Show 2025. Visitors praised the convenience and unique perspective offered by arriving at the event via the water, transforming transportation into an integral part of the experience. The port recognized this opportunity to differentiate itself and invest in visitor comfort.

Previously, access to the Old Doha Port relied heavily on road transportation, which could be subject to traffic congestion, particularly during large events. This new service offers an alternative, potentially reducing delays and enhancing the overall arrival process. Additionally, the waterfront arrival provides a scenic introduction to the port and its surrounding areas.

A Boost for Qatar’s Tourism Sector

This development aligns with Qatar’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading global hub for tourism and innovation. The country has invested heavily in infrastructure, including port facilities, to attract international visitors and events. The Old Doha Port, with its focus on preserving Qatari heritage while embracing modern amenities, is playing a key role in these efforts. Efforts to improve Qatar tourism are ongoing, and the port’s upgrade is a key component.

Eng. Mohamed Abdullah Al Mulla, CEO of the Old Doha Port, stated that the port is dedicated to providing innovative services and supporting both the maritime and tourism industries within the country. The success of the pilot program underscores the value of diversifying access options and prioritizing visitor convenience.

The Old Doha Port is not just focused on transportation improvements. The port is concurrently working on several projects to improve its overall offering, including upgrades to event spaces and enhancements to its retail and dining options, specifically aiming to elevate the Doha port experience. The port management envisions the Old Doha Port becoming a year-round destination for recreation and high-profile events.

To ensure the long-term success and quality of the maritime transport service, the port is preparing to launch a formal tender process to select a specialized operator. This operator will be responsible for managing and enhancing the service, including potentially expanding departure points and increasing the frequency of transport. The timeline for awarding this tender is currently undisclosed, but is expected in the coming months, coinciding with the announced 2025-2026 events calendar.

The expansion of maritime transport capability at the Old Doha Port represents a shift toward more sophisticated event management and a commitment to creating memorable visitor experiences. While details regarding the tender and long-term operational plans remain forthcoming, the initial success indicates a positive trajectory for the port’s future development and its contribution to Qatar’s growing tourism and maritime transport sectors. It is expected that further announcements regarding service expansion and operator selection will be made throughout the year.
