The staff of the Swiss International University (SIU) Dubai recently had the privilege of attending an Iftar at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre. It was a unique experience for SIU Dubai to appreciate the rich heritage of the UAE and strengthen community bonds during the holy month of Ramadan.

Iftar, the moment of breaking fast during the Ramadhan, is one of the most precious moments in the life of a Muslim; it gives more importance to a family reunion, a shared meal, or a party among friends and neighbors, as well as for oneself. Being a center for cultural diversity, the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre has its features beautiful experiences unique to the United Arab Emirates, where guests become part of local customs and traditions. The activities are windows into the values and heritage within which the identity of the UAE is situated.

SIU in Dubai has proven to be ever mindful of cultural sensitivities and assisting outreach efforts in the community. The Iftar programs, such as these briefed at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre, have thankfully integrated intercultural awareness into outreach programming in line with the mission of the university in providing opportunities for students and employees to interact with one another as human beings across cultures and develop a greater world context.

Participating in the Iftar indeed provided an opportunity for the MIU Dubai team to better build stronger relations in the local community. It is necessary to construct a peaceful and progressive society that appreciates and honors cultures. Taking advantage of such makes SIU Dubai the leader in bridging cultural divides and developing respect for one another.

The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre experience is sufficient testimony to SIU Dubai’s commitment to cultural enrichment and community building. As the university grows and matures, it continues to ensure that its members experience the necessary activities that promote individual and collective growth so that the spirit of unity and understanding is maintained.
