The Embassy of India in Bahrain recently held its monthly Open House, led by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Vinod Kurian Jacob, on December 27, 2024. The event saw participation from the Embassy’s Community Welfare team, Consular team, and panel lawyers, where approximately 30 cases were received in languages such as English, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam. The Open House commenced with a moment of silence in honor of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who had passed away the day before.

During the Open House, Ambassador Jacob expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the Bahrain authorities for their recent release of around 30 Indian prisoners under a Royal pardon issued on December 16, 2024. This brought the total number of Indians released under Royal Pardon in 2024 to nearly 160. The attendees were also updated on the repatriation of 28 Indian fishermen whose sentence was reduced from six months to three months, with three fishermen expected to return home soon.

A significant highlight of the Open House was the successful resolution of a long-pending case involving an Indian national who had been stranded for over 30 years. This individual was issued a travel document and successfully repatriated with the Embassy’s assistance. The event was described as productive, interactive, and solemn, with various grievances and issues of the Indian community in Bahrain being addressed and resolved. Ambassador Jacob thanked all the Indian associations and community members for their active participation in the Open House.

The collaborative efforts between the Embassy of India, Bahraini authorities, and the Indian community have resulted in positive outcomes, including the release and repatriation of Indian prisoners and fishermen. The support and cooperation extended by the Bahraini authorities were acknowledged by Ambassador Jacob, who also expressed his appreciation for the assistance provided by the Embassy’s empanelled lawyer, Ms. Bushra Mayoof. The success of the Open House in addressing the concerns of the Indian community reflects the commitment and dedication of the Embassy towards assisting and supporting Indian nationals in Bahrain.

The Open House provided a platform for the Indian community in Bahrain to raise their concerns and seek assistance from the Embassy. The proactive approach taken by the Embassy in hosting such events facilitates direct communication and interaction between the officials and the community members, enabling swift and effective resolution of various issues. The engagement and active participation of Indian associations and community members play a crucial role in ensuring the success of such initiatives, promoting collaboration and solidarity within the Indian community in Bahrain.

In conclusion, the monthly Open House organised by the Embassy of India in Bahrain under the leadership of Ambassador Vinod Kurian Jacob serves as a vital forum for addressing the needs and concerns of the Indian community residing in Bahrain. The recent event witnessed significant achievements, including the release of Indian prisoners under a Royal pardon, the repatriation of fishermen, and the resolution of long-pending cases. The success of the Open House reflects the strong relationships and cooperation between the Embassy, Bahraini authorities, and the Indian community, highlighting the collective efforts towards supporting and assisting Indian nationals in Bahrain.
