Sultan Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), recently signed an agreement with Zambia’s Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane. The agreement involves a $35 million development loan to finance the construction of the King Salman Specialist Hospital in Zambia. The total cost of the hospital, fully funded by SFD, is now $135 million. This hospital will have a capacity of 800 beds and will specialize in gynecology and children’s healthcare. Al-Marshad and Musokotwane visited the hospital project site in the presence of Saudi Ambassador to Zambia Ali Al-Qahtani to monitor the construction progress.

The King Salman Specialist Hospital project in Zambia covers over 200,000 square meters and aims to enhance specialized healthcare services. It will also provide health training and raise the standards of health services in the country, ultimately reducing the financial burden on beneficiaries in Zambia. The hospital is expected to play a significant role in improving healthcare access and quality for the local population. The project is a testament to the strong partnership between SFD and Zambia, with the fund providing support since 1978 through various development projects and programs valued at over $170 million.

This agreement signifies the commitment of both Saudi Arabia and Zambia to further developing the healthcare sector in the African country. The additional loan provided by SFD will contribute to the completion of the King Salman Specialist Hospital, which is expected to have a transformative impact on healthcare delivery in Zambia. The hospital’s focus on gynecology and children’s healthcare demonstrates a targeted approach to addressing specific healthcare needs in the region, with the aim of improving health outcomes and reducing mortality rates among women and children.

The partnership between SFD and Zambia highlights the importance of international cooperation in driving sustainable development and improving access to quality healthcare services. By investing in the construction of the King Salman Specialist Hospital, SFD is not only supporting the healthcare needs of the Zambian population but also contributing to the country’s social and economic growth. The hospital project is a tangible demonstration of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting the development of healthcare infrastructure in Zambia and enhancing the overall well-being of its citizens.

The tour of the hospital project site by Al-Marshad, Musokotwane, and Al-Qahtani underscores the level of commitment and interest in ensuring the successful implementation of the project. The construction stages of the hospital are progressing well, and once completed, the facility will offer critical healthcare services to thousands of patients in Zambia. The involvement of key stakeholders from both Saudi Arabia and Zambia reflects a collaborative approach to promoting sustainable development and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

In conclusion, the signing of the agreement for the additional development loan for the King Salman Specialist Hospital project in Zambia represents a significant milestone in the healthcare sector. The partnership between SFD and Zambia exemplifies the shared commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, providing specialized healthcare services, and enhancing the overall well-being of the Zambian population. The hospital project is a testament to the positive impact of international cooperation in driving sustainable development and improving access to quality healthcare services in Zambia.
