Kuwait moves to semi-finals after exciting draw with Qatar

Kuwait City was filled with excitement as the Khaleeji Zain 26 tournament saw hosts Kuwait secure their place in the semi-finals with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Qatar. The match, held at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, saw a crowd of 57,742 fans cheering on their team as they battled it out on the field. The tension was palpable as both teams gave it their all in a highly contested game.

In the 38th minute, Qatar thought they had taken the lead when Yusuf Abdurisag scored from a corner, only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper. This decision added to the drama of the match, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Kuwait’s Mohammad Daham also had his fair share of missed opportunities, hitting the post twice in quick succession in the 62nd minute.

However, Daham finally found the back of the net in the 72nd minute with a stunning free-kick that curled into the far corner, giving Kuwait the lead. The home crowd erupted in cheers as their team took control of the game. Qatar, determined to equalize, pushed forward and thought they had secured a penalty in the 77th minute after a VAR check for handball. However, the referee ultimately dismissed the claim, adding more drama to the already intense match.

In the dying moments of the game, Qatar’s substitute Mohammed Muntari managed to equalize, but Kuwait held firm to secure the crucial point they needed to finish atop Group A with five points. The draw was enough to see Kuwait through to the semi-finals, much to the delight of their fans. The atmosphere in the stadium was electrifying as both teams put on a thrilling display of skill and determination.

The draw against Qatar was a hard-fought result for Kuwait, who had to overcome missed opportunities and contentious decisions to secure their spot in the semi-finals. The team showed resilience and determination in the face of adversity, earning the respect of fans and opponents alike.
