Bahrain Post, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture, has recently announced the release of special commemorative postage stamps to celebrate the centennial of the first municipal council elections in the Kingdom of Bahrain. These stamps feature a historical image of the original municipal council building in Manama and serve as a tribute to this significant event in Bahrain’s history. Priced at BD1 for a first-day cover and BD5 for a sheet of ten, these stamps will be available for purchase at various Bahrain Post branches, making them accessible to residents and visitors across the country.

The release of these commemorative stamps is part of Bahrain Post’s ongoing tradition of honoring important historical milestones. The stamps specifically focus on the 1920 elections, which marked a pivotal moment in Bahrain’s history. The late Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa served as the first president of the municipal council following these elections, paving the way for further developments within the council. Subsequent presidents, such as the late Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the late Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, continued to lead the council and oversee its growth.

The availability of these commemorative stamps at multiple Bahrain Post branches, including locations in Muharraq, Al Hidd, Manama, Diplomatic Area, Bahrain Mall, Sitra, Al Budaiya, Hamad Town, Isa Town, and Sanad, ensures that individuals from various regions of the country have access to them. The stamps will be on sale during regular business hours from Saturday to Thursday, allowing interested individuals to purchase them at their convenience. Whether for collectors or those interested in Bahrain’s history, these stamps offer a unique way to commemorate the centennial of the first municipal council elections.

By highlighting the significance of the 1920 elections and the subsequent developments within the municipal council, these commemorative stamps serve as a reminder of Bahrain’s rich history and the progress made over the last century. The images featured on the stamps provide a visual representation of this history, making them a valuable addition to any collection. As Bahrain continues to celebrate and preserve its heritage, initiatives such as the release of these stamps play an important role in recognizing and honoring the country’s past achievements.

As individuals purchase and collect these commemorative stamps, they not only commemorate the centennial of the first municipal council elections but also contribute to preserving Bahrain’s cultural heritage for future generations. The availability of these stamps at various Bahrain Post branches ensures that they reach a wide audience, allowing individuals from different regions of the country to participate in this commemoration. Through such initiatives, Bahrain continues to showcase its rich history and heritage, inviting both residents and visitors to learn more about the Kingdom’s past and celebrate its achievements.
