Qatar’s top beach volleyball duo, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan are set to kick off their title hunt at the Beach Pro Tour – Elite 16 Joao Pessoa, Brazil. Currently ranked 17th in the world, the Qatari pair will face tough competition from some of the best-ranked players in the world. This includes the newly-crowned Olympic champions David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig of Sweden, as well as other top teams like Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum, and Brazil’s Andre Loyola/George Wanderley and Evandro Gonçalves/Arthur Lanci.
The men’s tournament will also feature Canada’s Sam Schachter, who will be teaming up with Jonathan Pickett for this event. Younousse and Tijan’s first opponents in Pool D will be Brazil’s Felipe Alves Pereira and Henrique Camboim de Barros. They will also face off against the 13th seed pair from yesterday’s qualifiers, followed by Argentina’s Nicolas and Tomas Capogrosso. These matches will determine their standing as they progress through the pool stage.
Younousse and Tijan recently returned from the Arab Beach Volleyball Championship in Tunisia, where they secured a bronze medal. Despite their strong performances, they fell short of a podium finish at the Paris Games, losing to the eventual gold and bronze medalists. The Joao Pessoa Elite 16 tournament is a crucial stop on the Beach Pro Tour, leading up to the Beach Pro Tour Finals in Doha from December 4-7. Only the top 10 teams in the world will compete in the Doha Finals, making it a highly anticipated event for beach volleyball fans.
As the Qatari heroes look to make a statement in Brazil, they have their sights set on the Doha Finals. With their experience and determination, Younousse and Tijan have the potential to make a strong showing in Joao Pessoa and secure their spot in the prestigious Doha Finals. Beach volleyball fans will be eagerly following their journey as they compete against some of the best teams in the world. Stay tuned for exciting matches and outstanding performances from this dynamic duo as they aim for success on the international stage.
