The Corporate Engineering and Health Facilities Management department at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) recently organized a training and orientation program for students in grades 8 to 11 from secondary and high public schools in Doha, Qatar. This four-day program, which took place from September 30 to October 3 at Bayt Al Dhiyafa within Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, was a collaborative effort between HMC and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Various departments from HMC, including Biomedical Engineering, Nursing, Ambulance, Security and Safety, Anesthesia, Radiology, and Healthcare Facilities Planning and Design, participated in the program, with an estimated daily attendance of 350 to 400 students.

During the program, students were introduced to the Engineering Department at HMC and its crucial role in operating and maintaining hospitals. They had the opportunity to visit several medical and engineering departments within the corporation, including Electronics Engineering, Human Resources, Biomedical Engineering, Security and Safety, First Aid and Ambulance Services, Nursing, Medical Anesthesia, and Medical Radiology. These visits provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the operations and functions of healthcare facilities.

The program was inaugurated by Eng. Yahya Taher, Deputy Executive Chief of Health Facilities Development at HMC, who highlighted the advantages of working in the engineering field within the medical sector. Eng. Mohammed Hamad Al Marri, Acting Executive Director of Corporate Engineering and Health Facilities Management at HMC, emphasized the diverse career opportunities available at HMC, including roles in medical, engineering, and administrative sectors. The program aimed to inspire students to consider pursuing careers in engineering and healthcare management within the medical industry.

This initiative not only provided valuable insights into the role of engineers and technicians within the medical sector but also showcased the range of career paths available at HMC. By exposing students to various departments and functions within the corporation, the program aimed to spark interest and curiosity in the field of healthcare facilities management and engineering. Through lectures, visits, and interactions with professionals in the industry, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of maintaining and operating hospitals efficiently.

The collaboration between HMC and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education demonstrates a commitment to providing educational opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare and engineering. By offering hands-on experiences and insights into the day-to-day operations of healthcare facilities, the program aimed to inspire students to consider a future in these fields. With the success of this program, HMC hopes to continue fostering interest and passion for engineering and healthcare management among young individuals in Qatar.

Overall, the training and orientation program organized by HMC’s Corporate Engineering and Health Facilities Management department was a valuable opportunity for students to explore the medical and engineering sectors within the corporation. By showcasing the diverse career opportunities available and providing firsthand experiences within various departments, the program aimed to inspire students to consider careers in healthcare facilities management and engineering. This collaborative effort between HMC and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education highlights a commitment to fostering educational opportunities and nurturing future talent in the healthcare industry.
