The Tech Mahindra Global Chess League is gearing up for its second edition in London after the success of the inaugural edition in Dubai. The league has attracted global chess icons like Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand with its franchise-based format. While the league has moved to London for the new season, Peeyush Dubey, the chairperson of the league, mentioned that Dubai is always an option for future seasons. The idea is to expand the tournament to every continent and every country.

The unique joint team format of the league includes male and female players playing in the same team. The upcoming season will see six teams competing for the championship, with Triveni Continental Kings being the winners of the first season in Dubai last year. According to Dubey, Dubai was the perfect platform for the inaugural edition of the league. The city had previously hosted the World Chess Championship, and its global appeal made it an ideal location for the event.

The success of the first season in Dubai has paved the way for a bigger second season in London. Dubey mentioned that the positive feedback from legends like Carlsen and Anand has inspired them to make the second season even larger. The team-based format of the league makes chess more accessible to a broader audience, breaking away from the traditional one-on-one format of the sport. The audience engagement and the team-based aspect of the league have been well-received by both players and fans.

The Global Chess League has garnered attention and popularity worldwide, especially after the pandemic. The growth of chess as a sport has made it more appealing to a broader audience. The league aims to contribute to the popularity and growth of chess globally by expanding to different countries and continents. The success of the league in Dubai and the positive response from players and fans have set a strong foundation for future seasons, with the potential for Dubai to once again host the tournament in the coming years.

Overall, the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League is on track for its second edition in London after a successful start in Dubai. The league’s unique format, global appeal, and participation of chess legends have contributed to its success. With plans to expand to more countries and continents, the league aims to make chess more accessible and popular worldwide. The upcoming season in London is expected to be even bigger and better, building on the momentum gained from the inaugural season in Dubai.
