The Follow-up Unit for Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Releases Third Annual Report

The Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit recently issued its third annual report, which focuses on the actual performance of government institutions in various economic and developmental sectors, as well as their efforts in achieving the goals of the Vision. The report highlights the progress made by the Sultanate of Oman in various global indicators, with a particular focus on economic and financial performance. Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of the Unit, emphasized the importance of collaboration between government institutions and the Unit to ensure the implementation of initiatives and projects aligned with the Vision’s objectives. The report also highlighted the efforts made by various sectors to build and develop national capabilities, including the establishment of over 60 offices for Oman Vision 2040 in different government agencies.

The report reviewed several priorities outlined in Oman Vision 2040, including Education, Learning, Research, and National Capabilities. Efforts in 2023 included auditing the quality of higher education institutions, funding research projects, and implementing programmes in scientific research and innovation. Sultan Qaboos University improved in the QS rankings, while Sohar University entered the rankings for the first time. The Health priority focused on developing a global health system, enhancing scientific research and health innovation, and providing high-quality healthcare services. The priority of Citizenship, Identity, Heritage, and National Culture aims to build a society proud of its identity and culture while preserving its heritage and embracing the modern era.

The report also highlighted the priority of Social Welfare and Protection, which aims to build a sustainable social safety network and empower vulnerable groups. The Sultanate of Oman saw significant improvement in the Youth Development Index, reflecting the country’s progress in achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040. The priorities of Economic Leadership and Management, Labour Market and Employment, and Developing Sustainable Governorates and Cities focus on enhancing economic performance, improving the labour market, and achieving balanced development among all governorates. The Environment and Natural Resources priority aims to support the economy, achieve food and water security, and promote environmental awareness.

In terms of legislation, judiciary, and oversight, Oman Vision 2040 aims to establish an efficient and fair judicial system, independent legislative authority, and transparent oversight mechanisms. The priority also emphasizes the role of the oversight media and a legally aware society in combating corruption. The Governance of the State Administrative Apparatus, Resources, and Projects priority seeks to build an innovative administrative apparatus. The government digital transformation programme achieved 53 percent overall performance in 2023, with an average performance of 72 percent in meeting the requirements of digital transformation.

In conclusion, the annual report issued by the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit highlights the progress made by the Sultanate of Oman in various sectors in alignment with the goals of the Vision. The close collaboration between government institutions and the Unit has been instrumental in implementing initiatives and projects aimed at achieving economic and social development. The report emphasizes the importance of continued efforts to build national capabilities, improve education and healthcare systems, and achieve sustainable development across all governorates. Through a focus on innovation, collaboration, and effective governance, Oman is working towards a brighter future in line with Oman Vision 2040.
