The Passports Directorate in Bahrain has come up with a unique solution for voters in the First Constituency of Muharraq who may not have their passport on hand for the upcoming parliamentary by-election. They have introduced a voting card that can be used as a substitute for the passport in such cases. The card can be obtained from the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports, and Residency at the Security Complex in Muharraq on election day or during re-election, with the presentation of an identity card. This move aims to ensure that all eligible voters can participate in the democratic process, even if they have lost or misplaced their passport.

It is important to note that passports that expire between the election and re-election dates will still be considered valid for voting. The parliamentary by-election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 7 September, with the possibility of a re-election on 14 September 2024. Polling hours are from 8 AM to 8 PM, providing ample time for voters to cast their ballots. The General Directorate of Nationality, Passports, and Residency will also be open on both election days from 8 AM to 7:30 PM, ensuring that voters have access to the necessary documentation to participate in the electoral process.

The introduction of the voting card for First Constituency voters in Muharraq reflects the government’s commitment to facilitating the electoral process and ensuring that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. By providing an alternative to the passport for voters who may have difficulty presenting this document, the Passports Directorate is contributing to the inclusivity and integrity of the electoral system. This initiative also highlights the importance of having proper identification and documentation when participating in elections, as these are essential for verifying voter eligibility and maintaining the security of the voting process.

Voters in the First Constituency of Muharraq who do not have their passport on hand should take advantage of this option to obtain a voting card from the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports, and Residency. By visiting the Security Complex on election day or during re-election, voters can ensure that they have the necessary documentation to cast their vote and have their voice heard in the democratic process. With the polling hours set from 8 AM to 8 PM, voters have a wide window of time to participate in the parliamentary by-election and make their decision on the candidates running for office.

The Passports Directorate’s initiative to introduce a voting card for First Constituency voters in Muharraq is a practical solution to a common issue that may arise during elections. By providing an alternative to the passport for voters who may have lost or misplaced this document, the government is facilitating the participation of all eligible citizens in the electoral process. This measure underscores the importance of ensuring that voters have access to the necessary documentation to exercise their right to vote, and it demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding the integrity and inclusivity of the electoral system. Voters in Muharraq should take advantage of this option to obtain a voting card and participate in the upcoming parliamentary by-election on 7 September.
