Tropical Cyclone Asna is currently located northeast of the Arabian Sea, with wind speeds of 35-45 knots. The cyclone is expected to move westward towards the Oman Sea before veering south/southwest and dissipating. Although the cyclone is not expected to make a direct impact on the Sultanate’s coasts, varying intensity rainfall is anticipated in the governorates of South Sharqiyah, North Sharqiyah, Muscat, and parts of Al Wusta. This could lead to wadi flow and potential flash floods.

From Sunday evening through Monday, September 1-2, 2024, rainfall intensity is expected to range from 10 to 30 mm. By Tuesday morning, September 3, 2024, rainfall could reach up to 100 mm, with fresh winds between 15 and 30 knots. Rough sea conditions are forecasted along the Oman Sea and Arabian Sea coasts, with wave heights reaching 3-5 meters. There is also a possibility of seawater inundation in low-lying coastal areas and creeks.

The Civil Aviation Authority advises the public to exercise caution during rainfall and potential flash floods, check visibility and sea conditions before sailing, and stay updated with weather bulletins and reports. It is important for residents in the affected governorates to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving situation. By following these guidelines, individuals can ensure their safety and minimize the risks associated with the cyclone.

It is crucial for individuals living in areas prone to flooding or flash floods to be prepared and have emergency supplies readily available. It is also advisable to stay indoors during heavy rainfall and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. By staying informed about the weather conditions and heeding the advice of local authorities, residents can reduce the impact of the cyclone on their communities and ensure their safety.

The impact of Tropical Cyclone Asna is expected to diminish by Tuesday morning, but it is important for residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols. By taking proactive measures and staying informed, individuals can mitigate the risks associated with the cyclone and protect themselves and their families. It is always better to err on the side of caution and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during extreme weather events.

In conclusion, while Tropical Cyclone Asna is not expected to make a direct impact on the Sultanate’s coasts, it is important for residents in the affected areas to stay alert and prepared for varying intensity rainfall and potential flash floods. By following the guidance provided by the Civil Aviation Authority and other local authorities, individuals can minimize the risks associated with the cyclone and ensure their safety during this challenging time.
