Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is planning to double the number of its volunteers to 60,000 by the end of 2025 in an effort to instil a spirit of community service among the youth. With the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies reducing the age of volunteers from 18 to five years old, QRCS aims to train 11,000 to 15,000 students as volunteers during the upcoming academic year. These new volunteers will be recruited for QRCS volunteering work next year.
In addition, QRCS has launched a volunteering program to promote a culture of volunteering within institutions operating in Qatar. An agreement has been signed with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to create a volunteering culture within the Corporation. The program includes workshops and training courses to equip volunteers with the skills needed to contribute effectively to their communities.
Furthermore, QRCS has partnered with the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies to launch a diploma course in sustainability in volunteer work. Through training programs, QRCS aims to improve the skills of volunteers and provide them with the knowledge necessary to handle emergencies and crises, promote community health, and educate them on International Humanitarian Law.
In order to fulfill its mission of serving humanity and achieving sustainable development, QRCS is actively engaging with the Qatari society and collaborating with governmental and non-governmental institutions. The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of citizens and residents by allocating resources and expertise to support vulnerable groups through social development programs.
QRCS offers a wide range of programs aimed at raising the standard of living of vulnerable groups in society. Economic and social empowerment programs provide financial and in-kind assistance to cover living expenses, while vocational empowerment programs support families, particularly women, through professional and academic courses. By working closely with the community, QRCS is able to contribute to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Overall, QRCS is committed to promoting volunteerism, enhancing the skills of volunteers, and supporting vulnerable groups in Qatar. Through its various initiatives and partnerships, the organization is making a significant impact on the community, while also aligning with the national vision for sustainable development. The expansion of volunteer numbers and the focus on training and development will continue to strengthen QRCS’s ability to serve humanity and make a positive difference in the lives of those in need.
