Dhofar Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman is a hub for cultural and heritage tourism, attracting both local and foreign visitors. The government has been giving increasing attention and care to the heritage sites throughout the year, making them more accessible for researchers and tourists alike. The forts, castles, old souqs, and houses in the Wilayats of Dhofar offer a glimpse into the traditional style of building in the region, as well as the history of archaeological sites such as Samharam, Al Baleed, Shasar, Khour Rori, Wadi Doka, and Khour Kharfout.

The tourism strategy of Dhofar and the Sultanate of Oman aims to increase the returns of the heritage sites, targeting various groups including citizens, residents, students, archaeologists, and heritage enthusiasts. Economic analyst Khalfan Al Toqi highlights the importance of heritage tourism in boosting the country’s revenues and providing employment opportunities for the youth. Oman’s natural resources, customs, traditions, and rich heritage, including forts, castles, towers, and archaeological sites, make it a potential tourist destination.

Dr. Salimbin Suhail Al Kathri, a media professional focused on heritage tourism, emphasizes the history, culture, and natural beauty of Dhofar Governorate as factors that enhance its appeal to tourists. The heritage sites in Dhofar showcase its deep-rooted history and ancient civilization, making it a unique tourism destination. Dr. Mohammed bin Awadh Al Meshaikhi highlights the economic importance of heritage tourism and calls for the development of the archaeological map as a priority for government departments and the private sector in Oman.

Mubarak bin Salim Al Mashni, a social researcher specializing in communication, sees tourism as a way to showcase Oman’s past and present to the world. By highlighting its heritage sites and cultural offerings, Oman can attract visitors and create a positive image of the country. As interest in heritage tourism grows, Dhofar Governorate and the Sultanate of Oman are focusing on preserving and promoting their history and heritage to attract a diverse range of tourists. Whether it’s exploring ancient forts and castles or experiencing the natural beauty of the region, visitors to Oman can immerse themselves in its rich cultural legacy.
