Apple is reportedly gearing up to introduce its foldable iPhone by 2026, as per a recent report by The Information. This move could potentially mark a significant hardware design revamp for Apple’s flagship product. The Cupertino-based company seems to be following in the footsteps of Samsung Electronics, which pioneered the foldable segment back in 2019 to attract new customers with a major hardware redesign.

According to the report, Apple’s foldable iPhone has advanced from the ideation stage, with the company reaching out to suppliers in Asia to manufacture components for the device. In fact, Apple has even assigned an internal code name V68 to the product. This step indicates that the development of the foldable iPhone is progressing steadily.

In a bid to stay competitive in the market, Apple is banking on foldable smartphones with AI features to drive demand for its products. With stiff competition from other brands like Honor, Huawei, and Samsung globally, Apple is looking to make a mark with its innovative foldable iPhone. The market for foldable smartphones saw a 49% growth in the first quarter of this year, marking a significant increase in demand for such devices.

Samsung, one of the key players in the foldable smartphone market, recently unveiled its latest foldable smartphones with AI functions. With its priciest flagship model becoming lighter and slimmer, Samsung is setting the benchmark for foldable devices. Additionally, Apple is also planning to upgrade the camera of at least one iPhone model, allowing users to control the aperture size with a mechanical system to create a depth-of-field effect.

Despite the progress made in the development of the foldable iPhone, there is no certainty that Apple will indeed release the product. The company is known for its innovation and secrecy when it comes to product launches. As of now, Apple has not responded to any requests for comments from news sources. It remains to be seen how Apple’s foldable iPhone will stack up against the competition in the rapidly evolving smartphone market.
