The Somali Diaspora Conference held in Doha presents an important opportunity for Somali communities abroad to contribute to the development and strengthening of Somalia’s economy. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi highlighted the challenges faced by Somali expatriates, such as integration difficulties, unemployment, and economic hardships. Despite these obstacles, the Somali community has shown resilience and adaptability, reflecting their ability to overcome adversity while preserving their cultural identity.

HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi emphasized the importance of international efforts and the contribution of Somali expatriates in nation-building. Qatar has been a key supporter of Somalia, implementing various development projects aimed at enhancing stability, security, and peace in the country. The State of Qatar remains committed to supporting Somalia in achieving prosperity and stability, with ongoing projects focused on infrastructure development, economic empowerment programs, and job creation for youth.

HE Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, expressed gratitude to Qatar for hosting the conference, underscoring the strong relations between the two countries. He praised Qatar’s continuous support for Somalia during times of conflict and its efforts to promote reconciliation among Somali parties. The conference serves as a platform for discussing cooperation between Somalis abroad and their homeland, with a focus on achieving comprehensive development and prosperity through economic partnerships and sustainable resource utilization.

The Somali Prime Minister emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in various sectors such as education, health, insurance, and finance to drive sustainable growth. He highlighted the need to enhance production capabilities, open new markets for national products, and utilize natural resources responsibly for long-term development. Somali expatriates were encouraged to establish companies in renewable energy and play a role in managing national resources in sectors like fisheries, livestock, and agriculture.

Addressing the challenges facing Somalia, including environmental issues, poverty, and the need to build productive societies, the Prime Minister stressed the government’s efforts to improve security and stability. Enhancing security is essential for creating an environment conducive to investments, which are vital for achieving sustainable economic development. The Somali government is working towards creating a conducive environment for investment to promote economic growth and increase job opportunities for its citizens.
