Over 11,000 people swim across Lake Balaton

The 42nd anniversary of the Lake Balaton Cross Swimming event in Hungary saw over 11,000 participants taking on the 5.2 km distance between Révfülöp and Balatonboglár. The swimmers had to navigate their way through a corridor made by 150 sailing ships, providing them with the option to hold on or even take a break if needed. The race ended at Platán beach in Balatonboglár, where all participants received medals for their efforts. Imre Barabás and Máté Hartmann were named winners of the event, finishing the swim in a tie with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute, 54 seconds. In the women’s category, Janka Juhász claimed victory with a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes, 15 seconds.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, the event was postponed to Sunday due to unfavorable weather conditions. Despite the delay, participants were rewarded with ideal swimming conditions as they braved the waters of Lake Balaton. Starting early in the morning, the swimmers were able to experience smooth waters before the wind picked up slightly later in the day. The challenging weather added an extra element of excitement to the already thrilling competition, testing the endurance and skill of the participants.
