The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM) is set to participate in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 by organizing an exhibition on Qatar. The exhibition will run from July 30 to August 25, extending past the Olympic Games and ending right before the Paralympic Games kick off on August 28. Director of QOSM Abdulla Al Mulla mentioned that all preparations are in place for the exhibition, which will showcase over 19,000 artifacts, some of which are rare and valuable pieces reflecting past Olympic achievements of Qatar.
Furthermore, the exhibition will also display 3,000 items borrowed from international Olympic museums to highlight QOSM’s debut at the Olympics. Additionally, a book by the founder of the Olympic Movement, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, translated into Arabic, will be launched at the exhibition in collaboration with the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Qatar Olympic Academy. This book is set to become a significant addition to the International Olympic Committee’s library as well as Arab and global libraries due to its comprehensive coverage of Olympic history and legacy.
The book launch will take place on August 1st during a reception organized by the Qatar Olympic Committee, with the presence of elite officials from the International Olympic Committee and HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. Al Mulla emphasized the comprehensive nature of the team responsible for organizing the exhibition, along with a group of guides who will explain the Museum’s exhibits to visitors. Among the notable exhibits are Muhammad Ali’s championship gloves from the 1960 Rome Olympics and the gold medal won by Qatari champion Mutaz Barshim in the high jump at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Al Mulla highlighted Qatar’s rich record of participation in international sporting events and its commitment to developing robust infrastructure, stadiums, and facilities. He also mentioned Qatar’s prestigious record of hosting various global sporting events, such as the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which has earned the trust of FIFA and the global sports community. Qatar’s participation in the exhibition is seen as an embodiment of the slogan that states that the Olympics are just a dream, showcasing Qatar’s rich record and contributions to the Olympic movement.
