UAE’s mediation results in release of 190 captives from Russia and Ukraine

The UAE has recently mediated a successful captives exchange between Russia and Ukraine, resulting in the release of 190 captives. This brings the total number of captives exchanged through UAE mediation efforts to 1,558. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed its appreciation to the governments of Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation with the UAE’s mediation endeavors, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to being a reliable mediator and supporting diplomacy to resolve the crisis between the two countries. These efforts come less than a month after the previous exchange process, highlighting the UAE’s dedication to peaceful resolution.

The Ministry highlighted that the success of the recent mediation, the sixth this year, is a result of the UAE leveraging its strong ties and partnerships with both Russia and Ukraine. The UAE’s mediation efforts have been critical in facilitating exchanges of war captives between the two countries, showcasing the country’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region. The authority affirmed the UAE’s commitment to continuing all efforts and initiatives aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict, underscoring the importance of dialogue and de-escalation in resolving the crisis and mitigating its humanitarian repercussions.

Since the beginning of the year, the UAE has successfully completed five exchanges of war captives between Russia and Ukraine, in addition to a successful exchange of two prisoners between the United States and Russia in December 2022. These achievements demonstrate the UAE’s role as a key mediator in international conflicts, working to alleviate tensions and promote dialogue between conflicting parties. By facilitating these exchanges and promoting peaceful resolutions, the UAE is contributing to global efforts to address conflicts and promote stability in the region.
