A potential ‘mass exodus’ of tech talent from Europe is expected to boost hiring at companies based in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Eastern and southern Europe will become a key source of IT talent for UAE-based firms, especially for roles related to data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity. According to a study conducted by workforce solutions and recruitment company Hays, companies in the Middle East offer more than double the salaries for key IT roles as compared to some European countries. More than a third of all European tech professionals are expected to leave their jobs this year, with low salary being among the top reasons.
Tax-free salaries in the UAE continue to make it a highly attractive place to work for tech professionals. Companies in the UAE offer higher salaries than most European countries, with strong market conditions and organizations ramping up operations in the region. Other reasons for European techies to leave their current jobs include lack of development opportunities, career progression, and long-term opportunities, as well as roles not being challenging enough. Organizations in the UAE can offer tech professionals opportunities to work on AI projects and exciting work with the newest technologies.
The Tech Talent Explorer surveyed over 5,000 IT specialists across 20 EMEA countries and found that 22 percent of techies based in the Middle East are expecting a salary increase of 20 percent or more this year, compared to less than 10 percent in Europe. UAE-based companies will be recruiting for AI positions and cybersecurity roles throughout 2024 and well into 2025, as technology plays a critical role in business innovation and digital transformation. The study also highlighted the average salaries for key IT positions across the EMEA region, showing higher salaries in the Middle East compared to European countries.
With 56 percent of tech professionals in the Middle East using AI, companies in the region have a higher adoption rate of artificial intelligence than any European country. The second half of 2024 is expected to be a key time for hiring from Europe, as many professionals will be open to new opportunities in the UAE and Saudi Arabia due to higher salaries and better career prospects. The report offers insights into how Middle Eastern companies can attract tech talent from Europe, such as highlighting AI initiatives and career progression plans. With the increasing demand for IT professionals in the region, companies in the UAE and Saudi Arabia are set to benefit from the influx of tech talent from Europe seeking new opportunities and higher salaries in the Middle East.
