Qatar recently participated in the Green Development Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Qingdao, China. Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie led the delegation and delivered Qatar’s speech at the forum. He emphasized Qatar’s commitment to green development and aligning economic growth with environmental preservation, as outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030. The Minister highlighted Qatar’s recent launch of the third National Development Strategy (2024-2030) to advance economic diversification while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Dr. Al Subaie also discussed the importance of energy security on a global scale, noting Qatar’s role as a leading supplier of natural gas. He emphasized Qatar’s commitment to green development and the transition towards a low-carbon future through initiatives such as the National Renewable Energy Strategy. The Minister announced the issuance of Green Sukuk, marking Qatar’s entry into financing environmentally friendly projects and achieving a balance between human needs and environmental preservation. He also highlighted Qatar’s ESG and Sustainability Strategy for the Financial Sector to support national sustainability goals.
During the forum, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie met with several ministers and international officials, including Minister of Ecology and Environment of China H E Huang Runqiu. Discussions focused on joint efforts to address climate challenges and enhance cooperation to preserve the environment and biodiversity. The Minister also met with officials from the Republic of Maldives, Belarus, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan to discuss similar environmental issues and strategies for sustainable development.
