Qatari football teams are gearing up for the new Ooredoo Stars League season by making significant moves in the transfer market ahead of the season’s start on August 9. Al Wakrah, who recently appointed Spaniard Miguel Ramirez as their head coach, announced the signing of Danish defender Alexander Scholz from Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds. Scholz, who arrived on a two-season contract, will replace Australian defender Trent Sainsbury. The team will begin their overseas training camp in Spain on July 14 before returning to Doha on August 1. Al Wakrah will face Al Ahli in their opening clash of the new season at the Al Janoub Stadium.

On the other hand, Al Ahli SC has been actively bolstering their squad by signing key players, including Croatian defender Matej Mitrovic from Rijeka. Mitrovic, who has played for top European clubs such as Club Brugge and Besiktas, will bring valuable experience to Al Ahli as they aim to improve on their 10th place finish last season. In addition to Mitrovic, Al Ahli has also acquired Spaniard Eric Exposito for three seasons, as well as Abdulrahman Muhammad ‘Bido’ on loan from Al Duhail Club, and Ahmed Al Sabaei. Al Gharafa has also made moves in the transfer market by signing Romanian winger Florinel Coman from Steaua Bucharest for three seasons. Coman, who featured for Romania at Euro 2024, is the second player to join Al Gharafa after former Real Madrid player ReJoselu.

As the new season approaches, fans are eager to see how these new signings will impact their respective teams’ performances in the Ooredoo Stars League. The arrival of international players like Scholz, Mitrovic, Exposito, Coman, and Joselu adds depth and talent to the Qatari teams, making the league more competitive and exciting for fans. With the anticipation building up for the season kick-off on August 9, supporters will be watching closely to see how these new signings will gel with their teammates and contribute to their team’s success on the pitch. The competition is expected to be fierce, with teams like Al Wakrah, Al Ahli, and Al Gharafa looking to make their mark in the Ooredoo Stars League this season.

As teams prepare for overseas training camps, the focus is on building team chemistry and tactical strategies to compete at the highest level. Al Wakrah’s acquisition of Scholz and Al Ahli’s signing of Mitrovic are seen as key moves to strengthen their defensive lines and provide stability at the back. With Mitrovic’s experience playing at top clubs in Europe and for the Croatian national team, Al Ahli will rely on his leadership and defensive prowess to solidify their defense. Similarly, Scholz’s arrival at Al Wakrah will bring a new dimension to their backline and add depth to their squad as they gear up for a competitive season in the Ooredoo Stars League.

In conclusion, the influx of international talent in the Qatari football scene is a testament to the growing popularity and competitiveness of the Ooredoo Stars League. With top players from different countries joining local teams, the league is expected to raise the quality of football in Qatar and provide an exciting platform for fans to enjoy the beautiful game. As the season approaches, teams like Al Wakrah, Al Ahli, and Al Gharafa are making bold moves in the transfer market to enhance their squads and compete for the coveted Ooredoo Stars League title. Football enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed season filled with drama, skill, and excitement as the league kicks off on August 9.
