Saudi Arabia has seen a significant increase in the spending of visitors coming from abroad, with a growth of 22.9% in the total spending during the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. According to the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), the total spending reached SR45 billion, resulting in an estimated travel surplus of SR24 billion. This growth indicates the success of the tourism sector in the Kingdom, as Saudi Arabia emerged as the top destination for international tourists in the United Nations Tourism List for its growth rate in 2023.

The preliminary data released by SAMA also revealed that the spending of Saudis traveling abroad during the same period was estimated at about SR21 billion. This increase in spending by visitors coming to the Kingdom reflects the continuous efforts made by the tourism system in Saudi Arabia to enhance tourism development and upgrade services and products. The Kingdom’s tourism sector has been focusing on applying best practices in tourism development and collaborating with government agencies to support its growth and development.

The success of the tourism sector in Saudi Arabia is a result of the efforts made by the Ministry of Tourism and other agencies involved in the tourism system, all working towards strengthening the sector and its contribution to the national economy. This achievement is in line with the National Tourism Development Strategy, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in tourism. The growth in tourism revenues and the number of international tourists visiting the Kingdom are a testament to the effectiveness of these efforts.

The continuous growth of the tourism sector in Saudi Arabia is vital for the country’s economy, as it plays a significant role in boosting economic growth and creating job opportunities. The increase in spending by visitors coming from abroad is a positive indicator of the Kingdom’s attractiveness as a tourist destination and the effectiveness of the initiatives taken to promote tourism. With the support of various government agencies and the implementation of best practices in tourism development, Saudi Arabia is well-positioned to continue its success in the tourism industry.

As Saudi Arabia strengthens its position as a top tourist destination, it is essential to maintain a focus on sustainable tourism practices and the preservation of cultural and natural heritage. By prioritizing sustainability and responsible tourism, the Kingdom can ensure the long-term success of its tourism sector while preserving its unique attractions for future generations. These efforts will not only benefit the economy but also contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the country.

In conclusion, the significant growth in spending by visitors coming to Saudi Arabia reflects the success of the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance its tourism sector and position itself as a global leader in tourism. The collaboration between various government agencies and the implementation of best practices in tourism development have contributed to this success, resulting in increased tourism revenues and a higher number of international tourists visiting the Kingdom. By continuing to focus on sustainable tourism practices and preserving cultural and natural heritage, Saudi Arabia can ensure the long-term success and growth of its tourism industry.
