During an annual conference focused on the effects of climate change, Oman proposed the creation of a database to identify areas most vulnerable to related damage in the near, medium, and long term future. Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Permanent Representative of Oman to the UN in Geneva, stressed the need for collective and comprehensive solutions that consider local dimensions and anticipate change to protect the environment against further damage.

Al Khanjari emphasized the importance of proactive, fair, sustainable, and environment-friendly alternatives to accommodate the transition of entire human populations to more suitable locations. These solutions should also replace production activities in a way that ensures the safety of human livelihoods, upholds justice and equity, and respects social, economic, and environmental laws globally. By finding these solutions, it is believed that it will ultimately contribute to the overall protection of the environment and mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.
