In celebration of the International Day of Parliamentarism, the Shura Council and Council of Representatives in Bahrain reaffirmed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting peace and understanding. The theme for this year, “Parliamentary Diplomacy: Building Bridges for Peace and Understanding,” reflects Bahrain’s dedication to global cooperation and dialogue. Legislators commended the royal vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for positioning parliamentary diplomacy as a strategic partner in promoting peace and coexistence. This vision has enabled Bahrain to showcase its rich cultural heritage and commitment to global understanding.

Jamal Mohamed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the legislative authority and the government in Bahrain. This partnership aims to achieve progress and prosperity for the Kingdom by integrating efforts and unifying objectives. Fakhro praised the government’s efforts in strengthening Bahrain’s standing in foreign policy and international relations, as well as constructing bridges of understanding and peace in alignment with sustainable development goals.

Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam emphasized the values enshrined in the National Action Charter and the Constitution of Bahrain, which promote institutional democratic work and responsible freedom of opinion and expression. These principles support international efforts to enhance security and peace worldwide. Karima Al-Abbasi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, affirmed the General Secretariat’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to members of the Shura Council. This includes harnessing administrative, technical, and technological capabilities to enhance their readiness and efficiency in fulfilling legislative responsibilities.

The Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security of the Council of Representatives highlighted the legislative renaissance and development witnessed in Bahrain over the past twenty years. This progress reflects the consistent support and attention the legislative authority receives from His Majesty the King. The International Day of Parliamentarism was established in 2018 through a United Nations General Assembly Resolution and is celebrated annually on June 30th, the date when the Inter-Parliamentary Union was founded in 1889.
