The Oman Golf Association has been recognized by The R&A for its dedication to promoting the long-term growth of the game of golf, specifically through initiatives that focus on supporting women and junior players. The R&A, an organization that engages and supports activities to ensure golf’s thriving future globally, has been supporting the Oman Golf Association along with 165 overseas affiliates across 146 countries, including the Sultanate of Oman.

The R&A has pledged to invest 100 million Omani riyals over ten years in developing golf and supports the growth of the sport internationally through sustainable golf facility management. Recently, Neal Graham, The R&A Development Manager for the Middle East and India, visited Muscat to meet with the Oman Golf Association Board to discuss golf strategy and development. The discussions included presenting key development objectives to make golf more accessible, appealing, and inclusive, in addition to aligning these objectives with the wider strategy of Oman Vision 2040.

The historical support from The R&A has been pivotal in providing opportunities for women, girls, and junior golfers in Oman to experience the sport and its benefits. Looking ahead, the OGA Board was excited to discuss the upcoming launch of The R&A Unleash Your Drive in schools program in Oman, a six-week beginner golf program for students that introduces the basics of golf and integrates mental toughness skills to positively impact their well-being. This program will be delivered within the school grounds to provide a safe environment for all participants.

Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, Sayyid Azzan bin Kais Tarik Al Said, expressed gratitude for The R&A’s ongoing support and guidance, emphasizing the opportunity for golf growth in Oman. With the support of The R&A and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, the Oman Golf Association aims to offer more people the chance to experience golf and provide a continuous pathway for those who excel in the sport. Neal Graham acknowledged the efforts of the Oman Golf Association in introducing initiatives for women and junior players, highlighting their commitment to the sport’s long-term growth and success.

Working closely with golfing bodies like the Oman Golf Association, The R&A aims to ensure the thriving future of golf for the next 50 years. As a signatory of The R&A Women in Golf Charter, the Oman Golf Association has shown dedication to growing the sport and fulfilling their pledge. The collaboration between The R&A and the Oman Golf Association reflects a shared commitment to making golf accessible, appealing, and inclusive while upholding the traditions of the sport and embracing positive change for future development.
