Australia’s Pat Cummins and David Warner led their team to a rain-affected 28-run victory over Bangladesh in their Super Eight campaign at the T20 World Cup. Cummins’ hat trick and Warner’s unbeaten half-century were crucial in securing the win. The match was abandoned due to rain with Australia at 100 for two after 11.2 overs, ensuring victory through the Duckworth-Lewis method.

With Cummins and Hazlewood back in the lineup, Australia was able to restrict Bangladesh to 140 for eight. Cummins took three key wickets, including a hat trick, while Warner anchored the chase with his 53 not out. Australia’s win put them at the top of Group 1, ahead of India based on net run-rate. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals.

Despite Mitchell Marsh’s poor form with the bat, Australia’s bowling attack, led by Cummins and Zampa, put the brakes on Bangladesh’s scoring. Starc’s early wicket gave Australia the advantage, while Zampa’s crucial lbw dismissal of Shanto slowed down Bangladesh’s innings. Shanto lamented his team’s inability to reach a higher total, citing the importance of the top-order batsmen getting runs.

Upcoming matches for the teams include Bangladesh facing India and Australia taking on Afghanistan. Cummins, who claimed his first hat trick for Australia, expressed his excitement at joining the hat-trick club alongside teammates. The slow wicket at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium posed challenges for both teams, with Australia ultimately emerging victorious in a rain-affected contest.

Overall, Australia’s strong bowling performance, led by Cummins and Zampa, along with Warner’s solid batting, were instrumental in their win over Bangladesh. As the T20 World Cup heats up, Australia will look to maintain their unbeaten streak and secure their spot in the semifinals. The upcoming matches will be crucial for both Australia and Bangladesh as they aim to advance in the tournament.
